Friday night polling

Once again, haven't had time for a poll in awhile. But I do right now.

[Poll #1475493]

Thanks for taking - hope you all have lovely weekends!

I went fishing as a kid (little kid, 3-5, thereabouts), because my grandfather is an obsessive sort of fisher (when we would vacation somewhere, he would leave at 5 a.m. to go fishing and not come back until 6-7 at night, when the fish stopped biting). He had this secret sauce bait he used, and he modified his fishing poles to make them more effective, that sort of thing. I enjoyed hanging out with my grandfather, but I actually hate fishing itself. In the words of Dave Barry, "Fishing is boring, unless you catch an actual fish, and then it is disgusting." I'm not so much disgusted by fishing, but I feel sorry for the fish. So overall, I didn't enjoy the experience much (and less and less the older I got), and wouldn't do it voluntarily as an adult.

P.S. Your Cookie Monster icon is ridiculously adorable!

[identity profile] deeplyunhip.livejournal.com 2009-10-24 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
Heheh, as is the hamster. ;) Though your peeking hamster has the benefit of not making me want to eat tons and tons of cookies...

[identity profile] esc-key.livejournal.com 2009-10-24 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
Seconded!

Hostel scarred me on two levels. 1) Oh god, torture porn, gross, gross, can't watch it, dear lord... 2) You can for the privilege of killing a person? That sickens me. So much. Like, normal people (well, except for their complete lack of morals) can pay to kill someone? Freaks me out! Because while I choose to believe places like that don't exist for my own sanity... they could. And I can, on a very speculative level, understand why any given person would want to go there. *shivers in the dark* It's so terrible.

[identity profile] deeplyunhip.livejournal.com 2009-10-24 02:15 am (UTC)(link)
I haven't actually seen the films, but they've been explained to me, and I thought they were based on something that had really happened?

Anyway, yeah, I agree that it's a very scary and upsetting thought. Ghosts in movies tend to scare me more because they're the kind of things we can't understand well. With humans killing other humans, it's usually just more sad for me. :/

[identity profile] scytheandroses.livejournal.com 2009-10-24 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
WISHBONE FOR THE MOST WIN EVER. Oh man, oh man.

Also HELL YEAH Carmen Sandiego. Only wtf was that where in TIME shit? Pfft. And dude. Beakman. XD THAT CREEPY FUCKING RAT that was TOTALLY boning the chick. And probably Beakman.

And fishing was a brief excursion, when a small 'un. And the... one thing floated away. At which point it was kinda "well, okay, I'm going to poke around by the river for a while, now." Which didn't make for a bad time, really. Or so very faint memory is telling me.

[identity profile] deeplyunhip.livejournal.com 2009-10-24 01:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh man indeed. Especially the theme song. And especially the ridiculous "teenagers", hahaha.

Yeah, that Where in Time shit was pretty much...exactly that.

[identity profile] sra33.livejournal.com 2009-10-24 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
My "other" was Mister Wizard!! OMG! Loved that show. Bill Nye the Science Guy!!!! :D I think there was another I was TOTALLY into but I forget right now. XD

[identity profile] esc-key.livejournal.com 2009-10-24 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
Mr. Wizard was awesome.

I also liked Square One, if any one remembers that mess.

[identity profile] sra33.livejournal.com 2009-10-24 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
Hahaha. I don't XD Sounds interesting. XD

[identity profile] esc-key.livejournal.com 2009-10-24 03:31 am (UTC)(link)
It was PBS's math show. I loved the Mathnet sketch. They solved crimes with math!

[identity profile] deeplyunhip.livejournal.com 2009-10-24 03:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Mr. Wizard was off the air by the time I was in kindergarten, so if I did see some, I don't really remember it. :/

But yeah Bill Nye! &hearts!

[identity profile] ender839.livejournal.com 2009-10-24 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
I love every Queen song ever.

Also, I grew to appreciate fishing more the older I got. Hated it as a kid, now it's not so bad, I guess.

[identity profile] cloud-wolf.livejournal.com 2009-10-24 09:05 am (UTC)(link)
I love every Queen song ever.
My sentiments exactly.

[identity profile] deeplyunhip.livejournal.com 2009-10-24 03:09 pm (UTC)(link)
They are hard not to love!

I've only been fishing once, when I was 12, so I guess it's possible that my in-between-'adult'-and-child-ness left me with my neutral opinion. :D

[identity profile] esc-key.livejournal.com 2009-10-24 03:27 am (UTC)(link)
Is the scares us most question about what scares us most at horror movies or in life? Because I find human killers are the creepiest because they stay with me longer. Like they could actually be lurking outside! But, like, zombies creep me out but I can't imagine them roaming my street.

[identity profile] deeplyunhip.livejournal.com 2009-10-27 02:31 pm (UTC)(link)
I was asking in terms of movies, but am totally fine with hearing all answers. ;)

-I probably enjoy more Queen songs; I just checked off the ones I recognized by name. "Under Pressure" rocks my world.

-I'm glad I'm not in the minority for being scared of ghosts! XD

-I didn't actually know Carmen San Diego was a TV show. I loved the computer games, though.

-I didn't watch Mister Rogers. We got Canadian television, so I watched the Canadian version, Mister Dressup. Which I loved! :D

[identity profile] deeplyunhip.livejournal.com 2009-10-24 01:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh no? So that means you never heard this amazing Carmen Sandiego theme song (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3bjAfVLk80g)?

Though okay, I loved the computer game as well. :D

Looked up Mister Dressup - looks like it was pretty cute!

*cue an hour of watching WitWiCSD episodes on YouTube with the rodents* Boy, that takes me back -- thank you! XD

[identity profile] whydavid.livejournal.com 2009-10-24 05:52 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not sure if I went fishing because once my dad bought some fishing poles from the K-Mart in Bay Ridge on a whim and we went to City Island and spent a lot of time on a bench trying to figure out how to like, "string" them. Eventually they made it into the water (we were standing by some bridge thing) but my dad said there were no fish because of the weather or something, does that count?

[identity profile] whydavid.livejournal.com 2009-10-24 05:53 am (UTC)(link)
Also are a lot of people scared of ghosts because they think they're real? Almost the same number of people are scared of sentient human killers, and those are definitely real.

[identity profile] deeplyunhip.livejournal.com 2009-10-24 01:17 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know. For myself, I picked ghosts because IF they WERE real, they'd be the thing that scares me the most. Especially when it's like Poltergeist and you can't see the thing as it throws chairs around or tries to bring you into the closet. I think maybe the "not seeing, not knowing" thing makes them scary in movies.

Sentient human killers are definitely real, yeah, and that's scary, but the real things that scare me the most are the dangerous animals.

[identity profile] deeplyunhip.livejournal.com 2009-10-27 02:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, I think this counts. There being no fish is a common problem among fishing trips!

[identity profile] nutmeg3.livejournal.com 2009-10-24 06:24 am (UTC)(link)
The thing that really scares me? Painful, icky, realistically depicted medical procedures, because they might really happen. And I grew up fishing on a lake and loved it. Deep-sea fishing is really cool, too. Note that we always ate our catch, though.

[identity profile] akeyoftime.livejournal.com 2009-10-24 06:49 am (UTC)(link)
I've been regular fishing and ice fishing, though I think the best part of the latter was the ski-do trip out to the cabin.

Educational kids programs: do not forget Polka Dot Door, plz. Also, I'd hazard that Wishbone's relative lack of popularity might be a generational thing? I'd probably have loved it if I'd been just a few years younger when it aired.

[identity profile] your-downfall.livejournal.com 2009-10-24 07:49 am (UTC)(link)
I clicked all the Queen songs. I love Queen. And you forgot "Fat-Bottomed Girls"! A personal anthem. ;)

Educational programs were the best thing EVAR to me when I was growing up. I was even part of the official Wishbone fan club. :P Other ones I enjoyed: Beakman's World, Magic School Bus, and probably more that I can't remember. I actually watched the Magic School Bus today.

I love your icon!!

[identity profile] deeplyunhip.livejournal.com 2009-10-27 02:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I was too lazy to do to the coding thing otherwise it definitely would have been included - that son is fun!

I was even part of the official Wishbone fan club. :P ...I actually watched the Magic School Bus today.

You are quite possibly the coolest person alive.

[identity profile] guad.livejournal.com 2009-10-24 10:16 am (UTC)(link)
Fishing: does collecting crevettes count? :) (shrimps)

Children program: the moste awesome was Once upon a time series http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Once_Upon_a_Time..._Man Awesome!

Scary: I'm scared of thing you can't see, specially when there's also creepy music. For example I found Blairs Witch project very boring because there was no music. Zombies and monsters are hilarious. Scary kids are scary too.

[identity profile] deeplyunhip.livejournal.com 2009-10-27 02:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Fishing for shrimp totally counts, yeah!

Awww, Once Upon a Time... Man looks really cool!

You make a good point with the music. The sound can often contribute to the terror more than any visual effects.

[identity profile] honest-illusion.livejournal.com 2009-10-24 10:59 am (UTC)(link)
+ I liked that Lamb Chops Play-Along show. =p I found the voices hilarious.

+ It was really hard to answer that villains question. I mean, I am definitely MOST fascinated by the intelligent, self-aware killers. It's hard not to be freaked out by evil kids with those soulless eyes. However, I reminded myself that the Jaws theme music is enough to freak me out so I decided on the winner. =p

[identity profile] deeplyunhip.livejournal.com 2009-10-27 02:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Ahh right, Lamp Chops - I remember that business!

And awww, I love that Jaws theme. ;)

1. LOL! Awesome poll! My dad is a HUGE fisherman so it is srs bsn when we go out. He sits on the lake for.ev.er. so when my brothers and I get bored we just start creating mischief to make my dad mad. I think the last time I was fishing though was on my honeymoon. It was really fun and Dana was cracking up because every time I caught a fish I screamed like a girl and made him take it off.

2. ZOMBIES scare me. I still have nightmares from the ones in I Am Legend DDDD:

3. Jem was my favorite TV show when I was little <3

[identity profile] deeplyunhip.livejournal.com 2009-10-27 02:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I don't think I've ever actually touched a fish out of water, now that I think about it...so I understand! :D

[identity profile] matitablu.livejournal.com 2009-10-24 03:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I had to uncheck a couple of Queen songs just because, but I love them aaaaallll! My favorite is probably Innuendo anyway.

I think I went fishing a couple of times with my friends when I was in elementary school, but it implied WORMS and ugh omg gross D: So, "1".

Carmen Sandiego is the only one that had an Italian version I think, so I checked it by default, but I liked it so much I think it would have been my choice anyway XD

I'm not much of a phone person. Actually, I kinda hate making phone calls XD But I most definitely have gone beyond the one hour timestamp with friends I hadn't heard from in a long time. Also with my brother when I was living away from home, but it's because *he* is the talkative one, lol.

Also, Square One and Ghostwriter. PBS had the best shows ♥

[identity profile] thetestingtree.livejournal.com 2009-10-25 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
I just saw Alien so that's what I'm considering the most scary right now!

[identity profile] g0newiththesin9.livejournal.com 2009-11-13 02:36 am (UTC)(link)
aww why'd you disadd me? I always liked your entries :-(

[identity profile] deeplyunhip.livejournal.com 2009-11-13 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, I thought you were going to stop using this particular journal and create a new one or something, so I figured I'd add that one in place - or did I dream/imagine you posting something like that? :X

If not, I'll add back, sorry. :)

[identity profile] g0newiththesin9.livejournal.com 2009-11-13 04:31 am (UTC)(link)
No you didn't dream that. I just haven't had the time to make it yet. I'm waiting for my paid account status for this one to go away before making a new one...and I can't think of a new name for a journal.

[identity profile] deeplyunhip.livejournal.com 2009-11-13 05:01 am (UTC)(link)
Ok, sorry, I've been really stressed and confused and I should have known this - I thought you meant you were going to stop using this one for now, so I figured I'd just un-check it along with everything else.

But this all makes sense now, so I'll add you back - apologies again!

And I can't think of any new names off the top of my head ATM, but you can expect a vote from me if you end up polling it. :P

[identity profile] g0newiththesin9.livejournal.com 2009-11-13 05:15 am (UTC)(link)
that's an awesome idea. I should totally poll it.

it's okay. i've been stressed and confused too... i got into an awful car accident yesterday :-(
