I picked Atlas Shrugged, because it is as liable as anything else to make me think and in all likelyhood, to make me really angry. I really don't like Ayn Rand's theories, but part of that is a gut reaction; I'd love the time to be able to study it so I can argue against the more intelligently :P

Unfortunately, I fear studying Atlas Shrugged for its theories may be impossible due to the fact that one tends to be distracted by the fact that it totally sucks as a novel. I have no huge issue with Rand's theories (though I can see plenty of problems with them), but this book? Huge issues. HUGE.

Anyone interested in her theories should just read the wonderfully brief Anthem and call it a day, IMO.

Man, some of those books are awesome and not boring at all.

That said, I'd totally start with War and Peace because it bored me to death the first time I read it, and it'd make me feel accomplished (in my little locked-up room) if I did it - and thus I'd be more likely to read the rest of them. I'd save Crime and Punishment for last, because it's one of my favorite books.

Agreed. Except for Mrs. Dalloway, Wuthering Heights, and any that I haven't yet read (like the one I picked), I like them all somewhat. I think Crime and Punishment does especially kick ass, though. ;)

Watched Wall-E and Ironman the other day. Wall-E was decent and adorable, but I left the theatre totally gushing about the Ironman theme song. The motif is a masterpiece, I tell you.

I checked other for stuff that's always in my purse. My Nintendo DS is in there. Next to the flashy cellphone and the eyeliner. Yup.

I've heard a lot of good things about the books on that list. I'd probably just grab one at random and start reading; if I don't like it, it's time for a different book. Surely there must be one I'd enjoy.

It was a toss-up between Call of the Wild and Of Mice and Men. I really liked both books, and I'm a fan of Jack London. I read a couple of his books as a kid and loved them. If someone wanted to torture me slowly, though, they could read from The Canterbury Tales. The stories themselves are amusing enough, but middle English/early modern English makes me want to gouge my eyeballs out with erasers.

The only movie I've seen this year was Ironman. I feel so isolated, but I'm eagerly anticipating the next X-Files film. I've told my girlfriend that come hell or high water, we're seeing it in English.

Agreed, there can never be too many polls :D

I took Moby Dick, because I've been wanting to read it for ages.

I would read one that I haven't read yet and of those I'd take War and Peace, I like Russians (and already did C&P). I would then re-read Mrs Dalloway though 'cause I actually like it :P Same with the Dickens and Steinbeck. I probably *should* read Atlas Shrugged, but ... meh.

Why am I not surprised about this? Lol. Well, whatever - at least we can agree on our old friend Raskolnikov. ;)

I understand why people don't like Mrs. Dalloway, not a lot actually happens and the writing is stream of consciousness to the extreme. I love it because it makes its point really well and creates a feeling, but I wouldn't expect it to be very popular.

Ahh Raskolnikov, that was a tough one that I only read because it was assigned, but it was worth it in the end.

If I ever got a scholarship to do an MFA (there's no wayyy I'm paying for art school) my thesis would definitely be about exploring the aesthetic value of cuteness. I did a presentation on it once for sculpture class!
