Just the usual set of unrelated questions. :)

[Poll #1667106]

Though the nap question is related to my current supremely erratic sleep schedule. I need to work on that.

TIME OF THE MONTH TIGER

I take as long of naps as Atticus lets me. XD probably anywhere from 20 min a day to 2 hours.

also I was goign to write "Curl up into a ball and cry" but Atticus hit my keyboard and typed "R3" and enter..sooooo, there you go. R3 BABY!

I have no idea how I'd never seen the bleeding tiger up until today, somehow, this happened.

Maybe Atticus is onto something with R3 - you never know. XD

I usually hate naps, but I've just been taking them lately because, well I guess that's just what winter does to me. I hate it though.

I've been having naps a lot lately, too. I blame the huge difference in my sleep schedule at home and my sleep schedule at Anders' more than I blame winter...but I definitely blame winter too. Winter's a jerk. >.>

I'm so devastated that she's not available anymore, omg. I feel like all my students from Yung Wing would have really related to her story about living in between two cultures and mastering English. *sobs*

And apparently Samantha is no longer available either, which is sad, though not quite as *~tragic~*.

SOCIALLY LAZY SLOTH!!

I'm a fan of power napping. It's funny how napping for 2 hours makes me feel awful, but napping for 20 minutes makes me feel great.

Oh, apologies for missing him - it's occasionally hard to remember someone who is that socially lazy with me. :P

Yeah, the difference is staggering. I can get through the day okay if a nap is under an hour, but if it goes above, blerghhhhhh.

I remember Pokemon, Tamagotchi, Furbies, Beanie Babies, Gossebumps and Gameboys, but from my kid brother's childhood, not my own. *is old*

Naps: when I nap on the train, as I occasionally do, my naps last about 60 minutes, because that's the length of the rid (though often it's actually split into two parts by the conductor checking for tickets). The only other time I nap is if I'm ill, and then I'm likely to sleep for longer, like 1-2 hours.

Date: 2011-01-13 05:45 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] deeplyunhip.livejournal.com
Oh, wow, napping on the train. I can't really do that here. Does someone announce when it's your stop...or...how does this work, exactly?

Date: 2011-01-13 06:41 pm (UTC)
hamsterwoman: (Default)
From: [personal profile] hamsterwoman
They do announce the stops, but that doesn't wake me up necessarily, so I set my cell phone alarm to go off a little before we're scheduled to get to my station. The trains here are not at all crowded, though, so it's not very loud and also I generally have the two-person bench to myself, so I can put my backpack on the seat next to me and use it as a pillow.

Date: 2011-01-13 07:57 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] deeplyunhip.livejournal.com
Ahh, it must be nice to have an uncrowded train. In New York, subway cars drive you! not only would be things be crowded, loud, and generally unpleasant, but it's against the law to put your feet up on the seat. If you laid down like that, a police officer might come by and yell at you. I've seen it happen.

The cell phone alarm's a good idea!

Yeah, that's the upside of living in a place with not-great public transit -- there are a lot fewer people riding it, so you can enjoy it a bit more. We aren't supposed to put feet on the seats either -- and I don't, I just kind of lean over to nap on my backpack as you would if you were sleeping at your desk only a bit skewed. (I don't think we have police officers patrolling feet-on-the-seat offenders, though.)

Sorry, dude. The only Kevin Smith film I've seen is Zack and Miri Make a Porno and it was so ridiculously predictable that it kind of put me off to seeing others. Though I think Anders owns Dogma, so maybe I'll check that one out sometime.

His earlier work is MUCH better than Zack and Miri. A lot of it is dumb, yes, and some of it is predictable, but don't judge him on anything he's done since the year 2000. Most of those movies only did well because of how awesome his 1990s' work was--that's what got him the cult following he has, imho. Check out Clerks, Mallrats and Dogma if you get a chance.

I have no clue what you're referring to for the last two questions.
I'm happy to see that I don't use cliches :) For some reason those sorts of phrases bug me.
For the trend one, you were just asking what I saw people around me into right, not necessarily what I personally got into? If for some reason you're interested in which ones I followed, they were: stickers! (still love stickers, but I don't display them in albums that I carry around with me anymore), pogs, Jagged Little Pill (though I never owned the album), American Girl (my favorite was Kirsten), Goosebumps (and Fear Street), and supersoakers a little bit.

I have no clue what you're referring to for the last two questions.

Meme characters = general silly internet humor.

The Hunger Games = a wonderful dystopian book series about a world where children are forced to participate in a battle like this on a yearly basis. One girl volunteers to go to the arena in place of her younger sister, and the story begins from there.

I am interested, sure! I love Kirsten - I still have my Kirsten doll. I was so sad to hear that she was discontinued or whatever. I feel like she could be a wonderful inspiration to other girls who are learning English and/or adjusting to a new culture. :/

Yes, I know, it's horrible. They apparently retired Samantha the year before. This article (http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/34477922/ns/today-today_fashion_and_beauty/) attempts to explain the "thinking" behind these decisions. At least I still have my Kirsten, even if her hair is like, beyond repair. XD

Cool, I'd definitely recommend them - they're quick reads, and very interesting!

Yay, poll!

I've heard of all of the idioms, but never used any of them. And I'm too freaking old for most of the trends to have taken place in my childhood, although there are several of them that I still like now (Pokemon ftw!).

The only time I've ever been able to nap is when I'm sick, which used to be never, and is now all the time. I'm the only person I know who occasionally sets their alarm for 4pm :D

And no worries, I've done the same with my alarm, quite recently...without being sick. ;)

-- I only take naps if I've pulled an all nighter, and sometimes not even then, because whenever I do wake up from a nap I feel a hundred times worse than I felt before it.

-- Dying underground sounds terrifying. I was torn between the bottom of the ocean and outer space, but I figure those two would be relatively quick and painless, whereas being trapped and slowly suffocating or falling to my death sounds worse.

-- I haven't read Hunger Games but I imagine it must be kind of like Battle Royale. I don't think I'd actually survive it, in all honestly, but I don't think I'd want to make any friends. >:|

-- I am, uh, very unhip because I haven't heard of any of these memes. I'd like to put in a vote for Kermit Bale, though.

Woah, I don't use any of those idioms. I suppose I avoid them because as a writer, I try to avoid any hint of cliche as a rule. But I never noticed I didn't use them in my general speech either. Fascinating.

It's pretty interesting to me to see which idioms are most popular. I wonder why certain ones are used more often by my flist and certain ones are barely used. Though it's also neat to take note of who doesn't use any, or barely uses them.

I admit, I nap frequently because my work absolutely drains me. Naps range from anywhere between 60-120 minutes, depending on how generous Yvonne is. I also really loved Puppy in my Pocket toys when I was a kid, mostly because I was (and am) a dog nut. I still have some of them here with me.
