I have no clue what you're referring to for the last two questions. I'm happy to see that I don't use cliches :) For some reason those sorts of phrases bug me. For the trend one, you were just asking what I saw people around me into right, not necessarily what I personally got into? If for some reason you're interested in which ones I followed, they were: stickers! (still love stickers, but I don't display them in albums that I carry around with me anymore), pogs, Jagged Little Pill (though I never owned the album), American Girl (my favorite was Kirsten), Goosebumps (and Fear Street), and supersoakers a little bit.
