It's been ages since I've had the time to make a poll for fun. But I have time today! I miss just chilling out on livejournal. It's been feeling like a bit of a chore lately, but I think the feeling will pass. I have at least caught up to my flist now. Not watching [livejournal.com profile] valyrian_forged for the moment actually makes it seem a lot more manageable (though I'll obviously still check it on a regular basis, it's just better to look at separately, I think). ;) Anyway, POLL TIME!

[Poll #1433620]

Apologies in advance for any typos, and thanks for taking. :)

MEAT. My mouth is already watering, how embarrassing is that? >.> It's more that I love food, and meat is food, so I love meat? I dunno.

Not really a cruise but when I was small my parents took me with them to a big boat which made a day cruise through De Biesbosch. It was seriously the most boring day ever. I don't know what I would think of it now.

I know a lot of people regard Twitter as the Second Coming, especially re. Iran but seriously, not a fan.

Hahahah, I understand! Food deserves our love!

Yeah, a day cruise doesn't sound like it could really compare to the full cruise vacation, but I'm sure you'd enjoy it more as a teenager/adult.

My "other" for movies was The Proposal. It was pretty decent. :)

My "none" for tv shows, is that I don't watch any of them!! ;; The Office, House, Grey's, Dollhouse, and that's about it for me. :)

P.S. Don't know what Freaks and Geeks is, but it reminds me of this old show that I kinda miss: "Beauty and the Geek". It was fun and I don't know what happened to it, I'm pretty sure it got pulled. :(

Nah, Freaks and Geeks is something else. Sorry your fun show disappeared, though!

I went on one cruise and hated it. Mostly because I got terribly motion sick and my most embarrassing moment ever happened during the cruise. But it's also... not as fun as it looks on TV commercials. Really the only thing to do is eat and stare at the water. And the rooms are v. tiny unless you get a fancy one.

Twitter is lame and needs to be stopped.

Date: 2009-07-22 11:11 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] deeplyunhip.livejournal.com
Aww, it seems like you went on a particularly bad cruise. :(

The one I went on was like...more fun than TV. There were musical shows every night, games every day, a casino, an arcade, exercise classes, a track, and we stopped for lots of cool shore excursions (snorkeling with stringrays, pirate museum, etc.)! There are apparently even cooler cruise ships out there, with rock-climbing walls, karaoke, skating rinks, and so on...I guess a lot of it depends on your specific ship? Or whether you find certain things fun. I found my cruise vacation to be an "11", but my brother isn't half as "yay outdoorsy adventures!" as I am, so he'd probably rate it as...something less than 3. ;)

Yes, it does. Celebrities are only making it worse! I'm glad I'm not alone on that one.

Date: 2009-07-22 11:23 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] esc-key.livejournal.com
On ours there were shows but they were LAME and we didn't want to go to them. There wasn't a casino or arcade, there was exercise classes but they were extra and we didn't stop anywhere. So I guess you do have to make sure the ship you're on is good. This was also like a decade ago so they might be able to put cooler things onboard now and also I couldn't drink because I wasn't yet 21 so that might've helped.

Date: 2009-07-22 11:25 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] deeplyunhip.livejournal.com
Hahah, yes, being over 21 tends to have a positive effect! :D

Not stopping anywhere sounds totally ridiculous! No wonder you got sick!

Well it was only a short cruise to Bermuda.

You forgot turducken, which is totally a different kind of meat than turkey, duck or chicken.

Also, Islands of Adventure is way better than Disney, if only for the Hulk (I'm pretty sure, it's green at least...) roller coaster that shoots you up the initial incline. Hell, any roller coaster is better than Disney.

Except that five-story arcade in Downtown Disney. Is that even still open? It was pretty rad.

From: [identity profile] deeplyunhip.livejournal.com
Hey, I'm a newly born-again meat-eater here, you'll have to be patient while I learn! ;) Though I'm not sure I'd be a fan of that, after looking it up...

Hulk is the green floorless one, yeah. Islands of Adventure seems really awesome. And it's apparently going to be where the new Harry Potter park thing will show up in 2010. I'm mostly obsessed with the need to go to Sea World right now. They have some awesome roller coaster stuff there right now, including one of those very rare water coasters, which sounds ridiculously fun.

I don't like meat that much, and I'm the only person I know who doesn't care for chicken. Seriously, what is with all the chicken hype!

I worked in the real estate industry for two years, and while it's totally awful, hey, if I was desperate...

I don't know. It's not the first thing I think of when I have a protein craving (that would be Italian sausages, lol), but it's got a good taste to it and it goes well with a variety of different things. Plus, it's pretty healthy when it's compared to red meats and such. So it does have that, for sure. :)

I forgot that you did that! I'm very impressed that you managed to deal with it for two whole years, I can only imagine...

- The fact that nobody on your livejournal (so far) has seen Transformers 2 gives me faith for the world.

- Also, you seem to be the only one who picked "going insane" when confronted with something dead. TOLD YOU SO!!!!!!

- Bacon. Who needs it?

- The only good thing about twitter (but it's a really good thing) is the Tonight Show Twitter Tracker sketch that comes on once a week on Conan. Simply Hilarious.

From: [identity profile] deeplyunhip.livejournal.com
Excuse me, but two other people picked "going insane" (reacting verbally AND physically) and the two other people picked "non verbal reaction" like shuddering. So, yes, it's still a minority, but I'm not completely alone! :P

Yeah, I don't care much about bacon, either. I don't hate it or anything, I just don't care much.

Twitter Tracker sketch? Care to elaborate? :)

Yeah those comments were AToP (a new acronym I made just for this, At Time of Posting. As a holder of an English degree, I am allowed to do such things, so are you!)

As for the twitter tracker. Basically, it's a sketch that makes fun of how lame twitter really is by having a super crazy excited man talk about how awesome such celebrity tweets as "Golly, I love the beach" somehow are."

I find it very amusing, lots of funny graphics and dead fake birds too (which you should like, Hermione lover).

I hasten to add in my defense, re: Ice Age 3, that I only saw it because we took the kids. (And it was actually not bad, surprisingly. Better than the first two, I thought.)

Take this kids to see Up!

(I saw Ice Age also. My boyfriend used to do IT work for the stuido that makes those films. Meh. But Simon Pegg's character was funny.)

I haven't seen any of them, but I'm certainly not going to judge a family for going to see a family movie. ;)

Though I agree with Jasmine - Up is great, you should definitely watch it with L and O if you get the chance. :)

-Shiloh shepherd. I blame the early hours for my typo.

-I admit to having seen the Transformers movie, but only because I have the hope of dragging Friend-With-Car to the Sherlock Holmes movie next year. It was bad. Really bad. Hilariously bad.

-My week starts on a Tuesday, because I have Mondays off.

-My mother has an irrational fear of being murdered on a cruise. Random note is random.

Also, my mother does this freaky little dance whenever she is confronted with dead animals. :D It's hilarious. I still have fond memories of the time my border collie caught (re: fell down the stairs and landed on) a squirrel and brought it back to her.

Hahah, that is excellent.

I can't believe that your friend is willing to see Transformers but needs to be DRAGGED to Sherlock Holmes. The Sherlock Holmes movie looks like it's going to be awesome!

Date: 2009-07-23 03:57 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] gruselig.livejournal.com
Well, to be honest, my friend is male and does not really see the appeal of Robert Downey Jr. playing Sherlock Holmes (who, I will admit, is my childhood hero).

What I do usually is that I filter first in "view journals only" and then "view communities only" (or the other way arounds, depends) so it looks much more managable anyway.

And elaborating:
Cruise: No, but some night crossing from england to france and netherlands. And a day trip on a private boat for mari's birthday with friends, whales and seaturtles :D

And I don't know what pastrami is.

I don't really feel like going to another page besides the standard "friends" to view my flist - I am impressed that you have the patience for that. ;) I think just this one removal is going to be good (as long as I remember to check it daily, anyway ;)

Your private boat day trip sounds fabulous!

Pastrami (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pastrami) is a sandwich meat. It's a big Jewish thing, so naturally everyone in Brooklyn/NYC knows what it is. ;) It's pretty good, I think.

+ I've been on a sort-of cruise. It didn't take really longer than a day so that's why I don't think it really qualifies. =p I forgot which part of Europe because I was really young but I do remember that I enjoyed it.

+ I picked Monday because I prefer to start with the worst and end with the best. ;)

+ I signed up for Twitter because I was curious and many of my friends use that to communicate (especially those who are too lazy to update LJ). When I discovered that several actors from Whedonverse have accounts there along with other awesome famous people, I couldn't help but friend them. Basically, I just update with responses to twitter friends but hardly on my own. I'm not crazy about it but I can't say I hate it because it does have its uses!

Magic Kingdom is very nice, but my main problem with it is the crowds. When I went on my Disney vacations, it was always the worst one that regard. D:

I loved being on my cruise not so much because it was a cruise, but because of where I was -- Greece and the Greek Islands. A cruise is a great way to see them.

As for the jobs, I only selected ones that I would possibly have the experience/training for... art/design/etc would be great, but I have no artistic talent. :P

As for the small dead animal question... I tend to do all or most of those things, haha.

For the Florida theme park question... I've been to all four Disney theme (non-water) parks, and Typhoon Lagoon, and they were all AWESOME. I can't believe Typhoon Lagoon has no votes! But, the most all-over awesome one was the Magic Kingdom, because, well, it's the Magic Kingdom!

Twitter is stupid. I have a Twitter, and I follow a couple of interesting people (Neil Gaiman, Lance Armstrong, Texts From Last Night (which is usually hilarious))... but for the most part, it's stupid, and I could happily never check Twitter again. Neil Gaiman has a blog, as does Lance Armstrong, and TFLN has a website. Twitter is unnecessary.

Lol, right when I started using twitter consistently XD Basically I see it as "Facebook status for those I don't care to add on facebook" XD besides sometimes you just want to share a link and that's not worth a whole post?

Mmmh, meat. My "other" is kebab! I also picked "ham", but now I have an afterthought, what do you mean with ham? The thinly sliced one you put into sandwiches (that what I was thinking about) or the portion of the pork?

Date: 2009-07-28 04:03 am (UTC)

Oh, I meant ham as in ham sandiwches. Though I like the other kind a lot better, and should have included it! And yes, kebab = awesome :)

If I see a dead animal, I'll usually say something like, "Aww..." or "Poor thing," or something. Sometimes I'll stop and take a look to see how it died, if it's not too gruesome...sometimes they're still alive. :[ One time I saw what I thought was a dead salamander, but when we stopped to have a look Jason noticed that it was still alive...it had been run over by a car and was bleeding badly and just in a horrible way, it turned my stomach to watch it... so Jason put it out of its misery, which we both agreed was best, but I just couldn't handle it so I made him count to 30 so I could be out of earshot when he did it, ugh. :[
